| TIME TO INCREASE LETTERS TO THE EDITOR From CFRW Southern Division Newsletter of April 2009. Especially timely NOW as elections are coming up fast! As election time comes closer and closer, it’s time to get conservative voices before the people. Do we want to take back the Congress of the United States and preserve our freedoms. YES! A letter to the editor provides excellent opportunities to advocate a message for our cause. Here are ten steps to help get your message printed : Make sure to use an important and current talking point regarding a specific issue. Keep informed through Republican web sources. 2. Make the opening capture attention. The first sentence should capture the attention of the editor and pin- point your reason for writing. 3. Make it short. Use less than 200 words. Some papers limit the number of words. Follow their guidelines. 4. Make it simple. Pick one topic, stay focused and on-point. 5. Make it personal: Tell how it affects you, your family, your community, your nation etc. 6. Make it relevant and timely. Make sure you are responding to a current and relevant topic. 7. Make sure your grammar and spelling are correct. You want editors and readers to concentrate on your message not your mistakes. 8. Make sure any information you use is correct. Include any contact information. Do not use a form letter. Make it your own as a concerned citizen. 9. Submit in multiple ways. Use email, fax, and any web site the paper has for “letters to the editors.” Follow the instructions of the paper you send to. 10. Follow up. If they do not respond, call them. Find out why you have not heard from them.
